Bethesda released a seemingly broken PC port of Dishonored 2 this week- not the most shocking of news ever, since we as PC gamers have come to expected this from the famous (for some infamous) game publisher. It is however ironic this time for such a port to come after the news of Bethesda no longer offering game reviewers copies of the game in an ample amount of time. This of course is bad for us the buyers to make well informed decisions with our purchases.

In a statement on their website, Bethesda had this to say about the issues raised about the PC port:

We are aware that some of you may be encountering issues with Dishonored 2 on PC. Please take a moment to review our recommendations to help better your experience.

General recommendations

  • Avoid using Alt-Tab when playing. Relaunch the game if you see performance dropping after using Alt-tab.
  • Avoid having background applications running in addition to the game.

Video Settings

  • If you have performance issues, try lowering the resolution.
    • Use 1440p resolution only if you have a very high-end GPU ( GTX 1070/1080 or equivalent)
  • Keep the V-Sync activated, especially if you have large framerate fluctuations.
  • If you have framerate under 30 fps, adjust the “Adaptive Resolution” between minimum (50%) and default value (75%).

Advanced Settings

  • Use the “Auto” presets:  this should adjust your visual settings without impacting your framerate.
  • If you still have performance issues with “Auto” presets:
    • Try deactivating the “TXAA Anti-Aliasing”
    • Try lowering the texture details

I do not appreciate the condescending way Bethesda worded that update- for starters, everything they have stated there to help with the issues, most PC players have tried, after all, as stated before we are used to broken ports from this Publisher. The overall issues are not being caused by people trying to run the game on max with aged hardware, the problems are occurring because the game is simply not that well optimized for the platform. Users are strongly advised to hold off on this title until enough patches have been sent out to correct the issue, and as always, DO NOT PRE-ORDER GAMES.

Some Overwatch news this week: From November 18-21 the popular game will be having a free weekend on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Overwatch’s full roster of 22 Heroes and 13 maps will be available to play and as an added bonus, players will be able to earn loot boxes and unlocked different customization options. If you decide to purchase a copy of the game after testing you get to keep any and all progress made in the free weekend. That is great for players who were on the cusp of purchasing the game but just wanted a test run to full convince them.

This free weekend is probably aimed to hype up buzz around their newly announced played character, Sombra, who is currently being tested in the PTR (Public Test Region)

And finally we go to MSI for some interesting VR news this week: they have released their VR One backpack, with a weight of just under 8 pounds it certainly will not break your back, though it will destroy your wallet. At a price of $2,000 it certainly will not be kind to gamer money reserves.

There are two SKUs. The first (6RD-007US) goes for $2,000 and includes the following the hardware and features:

  • Intel Core i7-6820HK
  • 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 RAM
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU w/ 6GB GDDR5
  • 256GB PCIe SSD
  • Windows 10 Pro

The backpack is geared towards VR headsets such as Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, though it can be used like a desktop if the need arises.

MSI says:

“When removing both batteries and using it as a stand alone PC system, MSI VR One is even lighter and more compact than some high performance gaming notebooks…Moreover, it easily substitutes traditional desktops. One of the stunning abilities this super gear possesses is running a surround mode on three external 4K@60Hz monitors.”
