Summer is here! Last Thursday, June 21st, was this year’s summer solstice – the official first day of the summer season. With the start of the summer means the return of some of our favourite television series and the premieres of ones that will soon join that list. Here are 16 New and Returning Series to Watch This Summer.

1. Glow – June 29th

Will Air On: Netflix

Genre: Comedy

Starring: Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young and Marc Maron.

Synopsis: In 1980s LA, a crew of misfits reinvent themselves as the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. A comedy by the team behind “Orange is the New Black.” – Netflix.

2. A Very English Scandal – June 29th

Will Air On: Amazon

Genre: Drama

Starring: Hugh Grant, Benwishaw, Monica Dolan, Alice Orr-Ewing, Alex Jennings and Jonathan Hyde.

Synopsis: It is the late 1960s, homosexuality has only just been decriminalised, and Jeremy Thorpe, the leader of the Liberal party, has a secret he is desperate to hide. – BBC One.

3. Power – July 1st

4. Sharp Objects – July 8th

Genre: Thriller

Starring: Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven

Synopsis: Based on the book of the same name by The New York Times bestselling author Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Dark Places), this eight-episode series tells the story of reporter Camille Preaker (Adams) who returns to her small hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely. – HBO.

5. The Outpost – July 10th

Will Air On: The CW & SyFy

Genre: Fantasy

Starring: Jessica Green, Jake Stormoen, Imogen Waterhouse, Andrew Howard, Anand Desai-Barochia and Robyn Malcolm.

Synopsis: Talon, the lone survivor of the Blackbloods, sets off to track her family’s killers, and discovers her supernatural powers, which she must learn to harness. – IMDB.

6. Harlots – July 11th

7. Suits – July 18th

9. Castle Rock – July 25th

Genre: Horror, Supernatural, Thriller

10. Orange is the New Black – July 27th

11. The Sinner – August 1st

12. Better Call Saul – August 6th

Genre: Crime-drama, Black Comedy, Legal-drama

Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian, Michael Mando, Michael McKean and Giancarlo Esposito.

Synopsis: In Better Call Saul’s fourth season, Chuck’s death catalyses Jimmy McGill’s (Odenkirk) transformation into Saul Goodman. In the wake of his loss, Jimmy takes steps into the criminal world that will put his future as a lawyer – and his relationship with Kim (Rhea Seehorn) – in jeopardy. Chuck’s (Michael McKean) death deeply affects former colleagues Howard (Patrick Fabian) and Kim as well, putting the two of them once again on opposite sides of a battle sparked by the Brothers McGill.

14. Ballers – August 12th

Will Air On: HBO

Genre: Comedy-drama

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Miller, Donovan W. Carter, Troy Garity, London Brown, Jazmyn Simon and Arielle Kebbel.

Synopsis: Success hits hard. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars in this series as a retired football superstar trying to reinvent himself as a financial manager for current players in sun-soaked Miami. – HBO.

15. Fear The Walking Dead – August 12th

Will Air On: AMC

Genre: Post-apocalyptic, Horror, Drama

Starring: Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Maggie Grace, Colman Domingo, Danay García, Garret Dillahunt, Lennie James and Jenna Elfman.

Synopsis: In Season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead, fans will see the world of Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and her family through new eyes — the eyes of Morgan Jones (Lennie James), joining the story from the world of The Walking Dead.

In the new season, the characters’ immediate past mixes with an uncertain present of struggle and discovery as they meet new friends, foes and threats. They fight for each other, against each other and against a legion of the dead, all to somehow build an existence amid the crushing pressure of lives coming apart.

16. Disenchantment – August 17th

Starring: Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon, Eric Andre, John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman and Lucy Montgomery.

Synopsis: This animated series from Matt Groening follows the misadventures of a hard-drinking princess, her feisty elf companion and her personal demon. – Netflix.
