PC enthusiasts are advised, Newegg is apparently now owned by the Chinese. As of September, it has been reported that a significant investment in the California-based company has been purchased by the Chinese company, Liaison Interactive. This follows other investments made in 2016 from other Chinese companies, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The deal has been said to have an estimated value of around 17.7 billion yuan, which equates roughly to around 2.63 billion dollars.
“Newegg is the destination of choice for technology enthusiasts who aspire to live a digital lifestyle,” said Danny Lee, Newegg CEO. “This investment enables Newegg to further cement its leadership position, while accelerating into high-growth categories increasingly vital to our business in the long term.”
Newegg is well known as the tech-oriented version of amazon, which makes it the usually go to stop for tech junkies and PC gamers alike.
Are you surprised by this news? Does this change your faith in the company? Or are you excited about what could be in-store (pun intended) for the future with the company?
