It has only been five months after OnePlus launched their 3rd main flagship device, but it seems they already felt the need to launch a new one. Yesterday they officially launched the OnePlus 3T- a phone that is essentially a juiced up Oneplus 3. The title of this new device would give you the impression that it is not exactly brand new, and you would be quite right in that assessment. Similar to the 3 that came before it, the phone features an aluminium unibody design so similar to the 3 that any accessories and cases that were interchangeable with the OnePlus 3, are also able to be used with this new device.
So you must of course be asking, what exactly is so new about this device. The first notable upgrade to the hardware comes compliments of the change from the Snapdragon 820, to the Snapdragon 821 which is clocked at 2.35 GHz. This new processor is said to keep power consumption at similar levels in “most” use cases. More important of note however, is the increase in battery capacity by just over 13%- from 3,000 mAh to 3,400 mAh without the need of making the device bigger. This is possible because the battery went through a “safe voltage change” from 4.35 volts to 4.4 volts, which of course means the battery is denser.
The cameras have also gone through a bit of a makeover- the front facing “selfie” camera has gone from 8MP to a surprising 16MP (selfies ftw?), it also now has built in EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization). The rear camera has not be changed quite as much, but it is not covered by sapphire glass, which should help with preventing scratches.
The OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau had this to say:
At OnePlus, we are constantly striving to provide a better product and user experience for our customers, who are some of the most discerning and tech-savvy users in the world. We developed the OnePlus 3T to bring significant improvements with new technology that is available today, so that our customers do not have to wait for the best possible user experience.
The device will ship with android 6.0.1, but the 7.0 update is expected to be available soon after the device becomes available. It will be available for purchase in the U.S on the 22nd of November- prices in the various markets are located down below.
